I would like to share the various Limited editions that are available around the world. (the list is not complete, there are probably tons of Limited edition that I missed). So, here goes...
Pokémon Dialga and Palkia Edition
Released on September 2006, in conjuction with the release of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. The colour is onyx, featuring a glitter design of the two legendary Pokémon Dialga and Palkia on the front. For a limited time, it came through a bundle that included both games, a scenario guide, and three pins
Pokémon Daisuki Club Edition
Released on July 2006, in conjunction with the promotion for Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, it is only available through a contest open only to members of the Japanese "Pokémon Daisuki Club". Each design have only 150 copies, it features popular Pokémon character artwork on the front.
Pokémon Center Pikachu Edition
Released on November 2007 in Japan. An application form has to be filled at Pokemon Centers of Japan for a chance to win a right to buy the console (its like lottery but you have to pay for it). With a gorgueous yellow, pikachu face on the front right bottom, it is simply irresistable for Pokemon CollectorsGiratina Origin Forme Edition
Released on May 2009, this edition is available through club Nintendo Europe. It features glossy Giratina outline across the Crystal white top screen.Metallic Rose Nintendogs Edition
Released on November 2007 for Black Friday special, it came bundle with Nintendogs: Bestfriend. The design has a pink paw image at the bottom right corner of the outer top screen
Mario Red Edition
Released on November 2008, this edition is completely covered in a bright red with a big round ‘M’ on the right side of the outer top screen. It came bundle with New Super Mario Bros which totally make sense
Legend of Zelda Phantom Hourglass Edition
Released on November 2007 during Black Friday, it is gold colored with a Triforce image at the bottom right corner of the outer top screen. There is another version of the bundle, asilver one with an image of Link on the left side and the Phantom Hourglass logo on the right
Guitar Hero On Tour Edition
Released on June 2008, it came bundle with Guitar Hero on Tour (off course) and also peripherals necessary to play the game. The design has the Guitar Hero Logo at the right side of the outer top screen
Wonderful World Edition
Released on July 2007 by Square Enix, the developer of the game Subarashi Kono Sekai which literally translate to It’s a Wonderful World. However, the game is named The World Ends with You outside Japan. The design features the game logo on the left and the title of the game on the right side
Love and Berry Edition
Released on November 2006, it is based on a popular Japanese arcade game, Oshare MajoLove and Berry bundled with cards and card reader peripherals. This edition is metallic pink with images from the game full across the outer top screen and the game title at the center bottom
Honeyee X Fragment Design Edition
Released on March 2008 for a short period, it is sold on the Honeyee online store, one of the hottest fashion, style and art online magazine in Japan. The design features the Honeyee.com Logo and is styled in a monochrome Black & White color, black on the outside but pure white on the inside
Lime Green Edition
Released on May 2009, it came bundled with Personal Trainer: Cooking and a limited edition carrying case. It is marketed as a Mother's Day gift.
Ice Blue Edition
Released on November 2008, it came bundled with Brain Age and a limited edition ice blue carrying case as a Holiday Specials. The limited edition case can holds a DS lite, 2 DS games, and a spare stylus pen.
Super Mario 64 DS iQue Edition
Released on November 2007 only in China by Nintendo’s partner iQue. The limited edition comes in Glossy Silver with an etched outline of Mario and the game's logo engraved on the front.
Crimson/Black Dragon iQue Edition
Released during the Chinese New Year of 2008, it features a dragons painting on the cover. The dragon symbolize prosperity in the chinese culture.
Final Fantasy Editions
Final Fantasy III Edition: Released on July 2006 in conjunction with the Final Fantasy III remake in Japan. It features Final Fantasy III artwork by Akihiko Yoshida with the title of the game at the center bottom across the Crystal white surface of the outer top screen.
Final Fantasy XII Revenant Wings Sky Pirates Edition: Released on April 2007, it came bundle with the game of the same title. Some characters of the game features on the right while the game title are on the left side over the glossy Crystal white top screen.
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Rings of Fate: Released on August 2007 in conjunction with Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates in Japan. This features a Crystal white colour Ring of Fates line art on the right and the title of the game on the left.
Pink Ribbon Edition
Released on September 2008, the outer top was outfitted with the familiar pink ribbon that symbolizes the battle against breast cancer. For each one sold, Nintendo donated some to Susan G. Koman for the Cure, the most widely known, the largerst and best funded cancer organization in the US
Seattle Mariners Edition
Released on May 2007, the system is limited to only 2000 copies, with the Seattle Mariners logo on the outer top screen which are available exclusively at Safeco Field. Safeco Field are the home ballpark for Seattle Mariners (a professional baseball team) which own by Nintendo since July 1999.
On September 2007, Nintendo released a total of 16 of those units but with autographs.
Winning Eleven Bundle Edtion
Released on November 2006, this Jet Black edition comes with the football game Winning Eleven. The design features artwork of football or soccer attack pattern which is quite unique
RX-93 V Gundam Edition
Released on August 2007 in Japan, it features the same red branding seen on Amuro Ray's RX-93 V Gundam in the animated film, Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack. The red logo appears on the left and the wording "RX-93 ν Gundam Mobile Suit Gundam Char's Counterattack" printed on the right.
Bape Milo Edition
Released on April 2008 in Japan, it is a design collaboration between Nintendo and Bape. This edition have two version, one completely gold with a white monogram and the other one all white with gold monogram pattern featuring Baby Milo and Mario. Only at BAPEXCLUSIVE to those who has A Bathing Ape (BAPE) Offical Member Card.There are other editions that I couldn't find decent pictures, which are;
- Jump Ultimate Stars Bundle Edition : Released somewhere on 2007, it has the words "JUMP ULTIMATE STARS" printed on its case, along with the Weekly Jump (Very old and very succesfull shonen magazine) mascot, the Jump Pirate
- Momotaro Tokyo & Japan Edition : Released in April 2007, in conjunction with the release of game with the same name, it is glossy white with a boast of the cartoon characters on top left and the japanese kanji of Momotaro on the bottom left
- Pirates of the Carribean Edition : Released on May 2007 to celebrate the Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, it models with a skull and crossbones on the front along with Captain Jack Sparrow in front of a castle while a text "Where the adventure comes to life" on the back. These were only released to ticket holders at the Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End premier at Disneyland.
- Nintendo Connection Tour '07 Edition : Released during June and July 2007, Nintendo Australia gave out a very limited edition Black DS Lite with an engraving of "Nintendo DS Connection Tour '07 Champion". There are only 15 in the world; one for each champion at each of the Pokémon Diamond and Pearl tournaments during the Australia wide tour
- Warhammer 40000: Squad Command Edition : Released in 2007, only six console were made which bears a design similar to the power armor worn by the Ultramarines. The design was created in conjunction with Games Workshop and a team of modelers. They were blue with a Warhammer design featuring gold wings surrounding a white skull that protruded off the lid by 1 cm.
- Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars Edition : In April 2009, for the launch of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, Nintendo showcased 20 Nintendo DS Lite units, shown in dark navy blue and red with GTA logos on top, displayed at the Nintendo World Store
- Mario vs Donkey Kong Edition : Released on March 2007 by K-Zone, a magazine company in Australia, New Zealand, Philipine and Malaysia. There are only 20 pieces which can be won through a contest.
- Kirby Squeak Squad Edition : Released in the same period with Mario vs Donkey Kong Edition, K-Zone held a competition to give away 40 pieces of these limited editions. It featured a black-outlined Kirby on the outer top screen.
- Wario Master of Disguise Edition : Released together with Mario vs Donkey Kong, Kirby Squeak Squad, K-Zone again held a competition with 40 Wario: Master of Disguise edition as prizes. It’s white with the picture of Wario outlined at the front right bottom conner
